FIFA | Fifa 2010 Soccer World Cup Stadiums In South Africa

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

No soccer world cup is held in the same country and only FIFA can decide on which country is being chosen to host this event. This decision depends very much on what that country is able to offer to all the people who will attend the matches.

There are many other key factors that need to taken into consideration before FIFA will make a final decision. Of course one of the most important factors is that of the number of soccer stadiums that a certain country has to offer and their quality. A country will also have to prove that all the people attending this event will be able to do so in a safe manner. Soccer stadiums will not suffice so it is very important that many other tourist attractions are available for the tourists to visit between soccer matches.

For 2010 the country selected by FIFA to organize the soccer world cup is South Africa. For this purpose all measures have been taken and South Africa now has 10 soccer stadiums available for this event. After long preparations South Africa is now ready for the receiving of all those who will be attending this event.

Having the opportunity to witness one of the matches in one of the stadiums can be a memorable moment in anyone’s life. Having all the stadiums ready was a very hard job because some of them didn’t exist and had to be built from scrap and others needed serious modernization. All these problems have been taken care of and South Africa is now ready for this historic moment which will be held in June 2010.

Here is the complete list of South Africa’s stadiums which will host all of the world cup’s matches:

First on the list is the Green Point stadium from Cape Town. Green Point received this name from the name of a very popular sector of the city and it is still under construction in a beautiful location between beaches and the city. This stadium will accommodate the huge number of 70,000 soccer fans and is being built to face any weather conditions and any aspects of the country’s climate.

Johannesburg is the South African city which will have not only one but two soccer stadiums available for the event. One of them is the Ellis Park Stadium which was initially built for rugby matches but it has undergone great modifications to accommodate 60,000 fans.

The second stadium in Johannesburg is the Soccer City Stadium which is special because both the first and last matches of this competition will be held here. The works on this stadium are finished now after a great number of important upgrades. This stadium is able to accommodate more than 90,000 fans and all South Africans consider this stadium to be the most important one of all.

One of the stadiums is located in Durban and more precisely in the vicinity of the port area in the Kings Park area. This stadium bears the name Moses Mabhida and it is famous for being the host stadium of the first international South African match in 1992 when they played against Cameroon. This stadium also needed some modifications and will now be able to accommodate up to 70,000 fans.

The Free State stadium has a capacity of 45,000 fans after some remodeling and it is situated in Bloemfontein which is considered to be the city with the biggest number of soccer fans.

One of the stadiums built from scrap for this event is the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit. After completion this stadium will be the emblem of the city and will have a capacity of 40,000 fans.

One stadium honors the memory of a very important figure in South Africa’s history famous for his courage and fighting spirit. This is the Peter Mokaba stadium in Polokwane which will accommodate up to 50,000 soccer fans.

Another stadium build especially for this event is the Nelson Mandela stadium in Port Elizabeth. This city has already hosted a lot of other important soccer matches.

There is also a stadium in Pretoria which bears the name Loftus Versfeld and has a 50,000 fans capacity.

Rustenburg will also host some of the matches in the Royal Bafokeng stadium and will be able to accommodate almost 45,000 soccer fans.

All the preparations are almost ready so in some months we will be able to witness this important and historic Soccer World Cup.
